London Prepares Hockey Test Event, Men’s Final: Germany 5-2 Australia.

Germany clinched the gold medal in this Olympic Test Event at the Riverbank Arena in London with a hugely impressive performance. Having been defeated in the group phase of the competition by their rivals Australia pushed hard to gain their revenge but were overpowered by an impressive performance from the European side.

After only four minutes Australia were grateful to their goalkeeper, Nathan Burgers for keeping the scores level, as he saved Moritz Furste’s penalty stroke low to his right. Continue reading

London Prepares, Hockey Test Event: Great Britain 3-0 China.

Two goals from Leicester’s Crista Cullen helped Great Britain to maintain their 100% record in this competition with a 3-0 win over China in front of a partisan home crowd at London’s Riverbank Arena.

Cullen’s first goal settled the home team’s nerves, coming early, in the 6th minute giving Yimeng Zhang in the China goal no chance from a penalty corner. Continue reading

London Prepares, Hockey Test Event: Great Britain 2-1 India. (3rd and 4th place play off.)

Goals from James Tindall and Rob Moore gave Great Britain a win and the third place in this competition but it was far from a Sunday walk in the park.

The hosts started brightly and as early as 2 minutes Nick Catlin fed James Tindall down the right and his cross was deflected goal wards by Ashley Jackson drawing a fine save out of Bharat Kumar Chetri. Continue reading

London Prepares, Hockey Test Event, Ladies’ Final: Great Britain 2-0 Argentina.

Two goals from Leicester’s Crista Cullen, both from penalty corners, were enough to give Great Britain the gold medal in this competition.

The game between the two sides that had clashed yesterday in the group phase started out as a very cagey affair with both sides sizing each other up like two prize-fighters in the ring. Continue reading

London Prepares, Hockey Test Event: Great Britain 3-3 Australia.

Australia progressed to Sunday’s final to face Germany with a hard-fought draw against hosts Great Britain who will have to content themselves with the 3rd/4th playoff against India.

A see-saw battle was witnessed by a partisan home crowd with Great Britain taking the lead twice, before falling behind and equalising through Ashley Jackson late on. Continue reading
