World Cup 2014: England 1-1 Belgium (2-1 after shootout.)
England ended their nightmare world cup campaign with a hard fought shootout win over Belgium to avoid the wooden spoon and take 11th place. As has been the case so often in the shootout scenario, England’s hero was goalkeeper Maddie Hinch who saved from Alix Gerniers, Stephanie Vanden Borre and Stephanie De Groof before watching Lieselotte van Lindt’s effort go wide to give England the win. There was minimal celebration at the end of the shootout with England still reeling from a hugely disappointing competition. Continue reading

World Cup 2014: England 3-1 Germany.
England finally picked up their first win of the competition with a hard-earned 3-1 win over a stubborn Germany side. The competition has been a disaster for Jason Lee and his players who had posted four successive defeats before today, but they got themselves over the line in this contest with goals from Hannah McLeod, Susie Gilbert and a blockbuster from Susannah Townsend. Hannah Kruger’s penalty corner 14 minutes from time proved to be just a consolation. Continue reading
