Investec World League Final: England 0-3 Australia.

Goals from Ashleigh Nelson, Kellie White and Emily Smith clinched this Investec World League competition for the Hockeyroos and sent a big crowd home disappointed, as England came up short in the face of a superb display from Adam Commens’ team.

Having overcome world number two Argentina 24 hours earlier, hopes were high for Jason Lee’s side, but Australia executed their plan to perfection and continued their excellent recent form to come out on top.  Continue reading

Investec World League 3rd/4th Place Playoff: Argentina 3-2 China.

Two goals from Argentina’s Carla Rebecchi, the second of which with just 24 seconds left on the clock gave Las Leonas the third place in this competition as they edged out China by three goals to two.

The game had looked set for a penalty shootout as goals from Meiyu Liang and Hongxia Li with her seventh of the competition had tied the game up at 2-2. However, Rebecchi had other ideas.

Investec World League 5th/6th Playoff: USA 6-0 Italy.

Paige Selenski scored a fantastic hat-trick to give the USA 5th place in this competition as Italy were blitzed by a ruthless Stars and Stripes in their final game.

USA led 1-0 at half time but ran riot in the second period as Italy’s exertions from the earlier games this week, finally caught up with them and they just didn’t have enough.  Continue reading
