Euro Hockey League KO16: SV Kampong 2-2 KHC Dragons (3-4 after shootout.)

Matteo Gryspeerdt was the hero for KHC Dragons as the goalkeeper pulled off saves from Laurence Docherty and Sander De Wijn in the shootout to send the Belgian side into the KO8 stage after an entertaining 2-2 draw with SV Kampong.

The two sides could not be separated during the 70 minutes as goals from Thierry Brinkman and Robbert Kemperman were cancelled out by strikes from Matthew Cobbaert and Jerome Saeys for Dragons and so a shootout was required, allowing Gryspeerdt his moment in the sun.  Continue reading

Euro Hockey League KO16: HC Rotterdam 6-1 WKS Grunwald Poznan.

A hat-trick from Rotterdam’s Jeroen Hertzberger- the all-time leading scorer in the EHL was enough to allow Reinoud Wolff’s side to cruise to a 6-1 over WKS Grunwald Poznan. Further goals from Seve van Ass, Jeffrey Thys and Bas Cambell came before Hertzberger completed his hat-trick with a tap in at the very end. Karol Majchrzak notched a consolation for the Poles but it was not enough.  Continue reading

Euro Hockey League KO16: Harvestehuder 1-0 Uhlenhorst Mulheim.

A penalty stroke from Paul Pongs just before half time was enough to see Harvestehuder THC past their domestic rivals Uhlenhorst Mulheim in a very close affair. The game may have been lacking in goals but it was not lacking in quality as both sides displayed some excellent skill on the ball, and perhaps more noticeably, some outstanding defensive work.  Continue reading

Investec Women’s Championship Playoffs: Surbiton 3-0 Canterbury.

Investec Women's Hockey LeagueGoals from Emily Atkinson, Hollie Webb and Jenna Woolven fired Surbiton to a 3-0 win over Canterbury and their first Investec Women’s Championship Trophy. Brett Garrard’s side, in only their second season in the Premier League and their second appearance at the playoffs held off a spirited display from the Kent side to cap a perfect weekend for the Sugden Road outfit.
