EuroHockey Indoor Club Champions Cup.
The spotlight fell on East Grinstead once again as the Sussex side hosted their second European competition this weekend. After the successful hosting of the Euro Hockey League last year the Saint Hill club welcomed teams from all corners of the continent to the K2 Leisure Centre in Crawley to discover who would be crowned European Indoor Champions. Maxinutrition Hockey 5s Men’s Final: East Grinstead 8-4 Canterbury.
East Grinstead swept to their sixth consecutive indoor title with an 8-4 win over Canterbury in what proved to be a hugely entertaining encounter. Ross Stott and Mark Pearn grabbed two goals apiece to fire the Sussex side to the title but it was the performance of Czech International ‘keeper Filip Neusser that caught the eye. The giant goalkeeper made a series of crucial saves during the first half to preserve his team’s lead and was deservedly named the player of the match. Continue reading
Maxinutrition Hockey 5s Women’s Final: Bowdon Hightown 2-9 Reading.
A fantastic display from Reading ensured the Sonning Lane side got their hands on the trophy they won last year as they blitzed Bowdon Hightown with some clinical finishing. Double strikes from Becky Halle, Emma Thomas and Susie Gilbert did most of the damage as Hightown had to settle for second place. Continue reading
Maxinutrition Hockey 5s Semi-Finals: Reading 8-9 Canterbury.
Canterbury erased the pain of their semi-final defeat in last year’s competition with a dramatic 9-8 win over Reading in a pulsating contest. Doubles from Ali Bray, Liam Foster as well as a late strike from Hardeep Jawanda did the trick as Reading came up just short. Continue reading
