At the time of writing the first weekend of the tournament has come to a close and we’ve had a look at every team at least once. Here are a few observations and a few things that have piqued my interest.

Martin wants England to find consistency in bid for Euros glory
Hannah Martin has called on England to find consistency as they travel to Germany to compete in the EuroHockey Championships.
Rob and Romesh vs Hockey
You may or may not have seen that BAFTA-nominated “Rob & Romesh vs” returned to Sky One at the start of July.
Given the Olympics is almost here, there are a couple of episodes dedicated to comedians Romesh Ranganathan and Rob Beckett and their quest to find an Olympic sport they can turn their hand to.
In their infinite wisdom, they decide that playing in goal at hockey looks pretty straightforward. The reality, is quite different.

As hockey makes its triumphant return to pitches up and down the country it’s comforting to feel like there might be a sense of normality returning very soon.
Despite the enthusiasm with which people have resumed playing, for many of us a “lack of match sharpness” is very clear to see right now. Players who before lockdown had a first touch you could bet your house on, look like they’ve never even picked up a stick right now. The main thing getting a workout during most shooting drills is the back fence, not the goalkeepers.
